The White House Heritage wrestling team went 1-1 in a tri-match at Hume-Fogg Magnet on Tuesday, Feb. 4.
The Patriots began the afternoon with a 36-35 win over Hume-Fogg but fell to Hunters Lane 36-31 in the second match.
Hume-Fogg took forfeit wins in both the 195 and 220-pound weight classes. Alexander Potchernikov went on to pin Heritage freshman Ray Wix in the first period, giving the Blue Knights an 18-0 lead. After forfeiting the 106-pound class, Heritage fell behind 24-0.
After Makana Coffin lost to Hume-Fogg’s Jeremy Martin by a technical fall, Heritage was down 35-12 and on the ropes.
But sophomore Lucas Taylor gave the team six points with a pin of Nicholas Fouche in the first period, and Kyle Watts earned a pin over Xavier Whitlow in the third period. Tyler Pratt (170) and William Easter (182) picked up forfeits victories to complete the Heritage comeback. The win provided some vengeance after Heritage lost to Hume-Fogg 37-36 on near fall points on Jan. 7.
Hunters Lane pinned Ray Wix, Marcus Ashley and William Easter. Nathaniel Slough, Lucas Taylor and Kyle Watts and Ray Wix earned pins for Heritage, and Nikolas Taylor won 8-3 by decision over Joe Munoz.
But it was not enough as Heritage fell by five points in its final regular season match. The Patriots return to the mat on Feb. 14 for the individual regionals at Creek Wood High School.
